Sara Lightning is a painter from Denver, Colorado, who currently lives and works in Budapest, Hungary. Her paintings primarily focus on the figure in various states of abstraction, often collapsing pictorial space between the figure and the environment. Her approaches range from creating visual intersections between people and architecture, inspired by observational techniques in painting, to using patterns as a grounding device against which gestural iterations of the figure are overlaid. She has travelled and lived in many countries, spanning across Europe and Asia and employs textures and patterns from these broad visual experiences to situate the figure in ambiguous and liminal spaces.
