Julia Standovar is a Brooklyn based visual artist from Budapest, Hungary. She gained her Fine Art Photography BFA degree at Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design in 2013, then she graduated at School of Visual Arts Photography, Video and Related Media MFA program in 2015. Standovar’s work have been showed internationally at Ludwig Museum of Contemporary Art (BP), MoMA PS1 - New York Art Book Fair (NY), Budapest Art Market 2016 (BP), Knockdown Center (NY), Metro Pictures (NY). In 2013 she produced a solo show at Telep Gallery and in 2016 her book Hungry Hungarians was published by Lewellyn Projects and launched at the Radiator Gallery in New York City. Julia received a grant from The Hungary Initiatives Foundation 2014, and she got the Thomas Reiss Memorial Award and the Paula Rhodes Memorial Award in 2015. She was recently selected to be part of the one year long Jozsef Pecsi Fine Art Photography Scholarship 2018. Her work focuses on social, political and personal issues, currently she is working on her second book.
